katawan

Wednesday, September 21st, 2005

i survived it. and i’ll do it again nth times more. yehey!

we skinned our cadaver this morning. we finished the anterior portions of the head, the thorax, the abdomen and the lower limbs. naiwan na lng ung upper limb. haaay, ang saya tlga! it wasn’t as scary as a thought it would be. it was quite fun actually. buti na lng dumaan na ako ng zoo 113 sa lb kaya hindi na bago ung mga pinaggagagawa namin kanina. =) it was just like doing it on a cat, only much bigger.

the skin was like crispy pata. and kunat, grabe. tapos ang sebo. parang pagkain nga e. buti na man at hindi naapektohan and eating mechanism ko kaninang lunch. and sa mga susunod na araw ay pag-aaralan na namin ang mga muscles at mga organs na nasa loob ni tita dolly.

the human body is indeed very beautiful. indeed, we are beautifully and wonderfully made. being in medical school has made me appreciate it even more. our God knew what he was doing when he created man. no wonder he pronounced it very good when he was done! the organization of the human body is perfect and every little part has its function. everything contributes to everything else. hindi siya pwedeng chance lang un nangyari because of its complexity and beauty. and everything, everything really points to a creator who thought of all these things and caused it to be. astig.

astig si God. as in.

first look

if i weren’t convinced that i’m supposed to be here in medschool, i’d stop right now. but i am. so i’ll see this through. by God’s grace.

we are now in our anatomy block. expectedly, we’d be pottering with disarticulated skeletons. and dissecting cadavers. yesterday, at 10 am, we studied the different bones in the body. it wasn’t scary nor was it icky as the bones were cleaned and varnished and they weren’t put together. but the afternoon session was quite different. we went to the dissecting room and we met our cadavers for the first time.

there were only five of them in individual tables, covered with dark blue cloth. even from outside, the stench of formalin could be smelled. we were asked to light candles and enter the room where the priest started blessing the cadavers. after the prayers, the priest uncovered the bodies and i got my first look of a dead person, minus the makeup and the suit and the coffin and the flowers. it wasn’t a very pleasant sight.

they were thin. very much so. and old. and brown. our teachers told us that we should respect the dead as they kindly gave their bodies over for science - for us to better understand the human body. but my classmates told me that our cadavers were people who weren’t claimed by their relatives when they died at the hospital. we were also told that they came all the way from PGH. i couldn’t help but feel sad for them. they never were able to give their consent for the advancement of medical science.

we start dissection on wednesday. i was reminded by a friend to not let my emotions get the better of me as we start dissecting. i do hope i can follow her advice.

enjoy

i am so enjoying medschool… ahahaha!!Apat

last friday, we had our histology exam. lecture and correlates. terrible. a word that aptly describes it. my gosh. kamote talaga. o well. pamapalubag loob ko? nakatulog ako ng maayos nung gabi. haaay. at nakakangiti pa naman kami kahit papano.

tapos nung monday, we had our "finals" for one of our subjects. it covered four modules: the cell, biochem, embryology and histology. horror sobra. and that’s that. icocompute na lng ang grade namin. only one last subject to go and i’d be 1/8 a doctor. phew! after the exa, syempre sa sm na kami dumiretso para ‘magpa-utwas’. and at about 9pm, my friend and i went walking sa cpu para lalong maglabas ng sama ng loob. hehe. masarap pa rin namn ang tulog ko kagabi.

now, we’re  into the last block of the semester. anatomy. and next week, we’ll face our dear cadavers. i hope i don’t puke or faint. wish ko lng.

kahit dalawang beses nako nagkakasakit dahil sa kakapuyat, ok lng. enjoy pa rin namn. =)
